The newly awaited iPad Pro was finally released last week at Apple’s WWDC 2017 keynote event. It kicked off into the stores and also orders from customers started being received this week. The device comes in two models which are the iPad pro 10.5 inch model and the iPad pro 12.9 inch model. They are both built and designed for education and business Purposes and are set at high configurations in order to fulfill their purpose smoothly and efficiently to all customers. All the features and specs in the 10.5-inch model are also built into the new 12.9-inch model. Apple cleaned up and renewed both iPad Pro models and we see some significant new changes and features from the previous versions and this is what we are to focus on here. The iPad Pro new features are as discussed below for the 10.5 inch model.
1. The Display
The new screen on the new iPad Pro can do lots of things much more than any other display that apple has made at the moment. The 10.5 inch Pro has a 2224 × 1668 display size which is 20 percent larger than the previous 9.7 inch ipad pro. The display has features like ProMotion which comes with a 120Hz (twice normal frequency at 60Hz) screen refresh rate. Its importance is to enhance more smoother and even responsive motion and animations. With the Apple pencil, the ProMotion feature will enhance a better experience with the user by having 20ms latency which will automatically adjust the refresh rate. This is a very technical way to avoid battery drainage but all in all it works. Another feature for this display is the True Tone aspect, which automatically detects the color temperature of the light and adjusts the display’s color temperature so that they can much. This entirely will boost the display’s brightness by 50%. The other feature of the screen is the support of the DCI-P3 wide color gamut which plays a great role in making the display look more sharper and have great wide viewing angles.
2. The Camera
There is probably not much to talk about here as rarely will you find yourself using the camera. However, the rear camera is at 12 megapixel and definitely with the current technology, it can shoot 4K videos. The new change here is the aperture size upgrade. In previous model of the iPad pro, it had a f/2.2 aperture size as compared to the latest model with a f/1.8 aperture size. This means big to picture quality in low light. More so it has a front snapper at 7 megapixels for those selfies which can now take videos at 1080-pixels unlike the previous build which could only manage 720p videos.
The new iPad Pro houses an A10X Fusion chip which is an upgrade for the A9X Fusion chip seen in the previous 9.7 inch iPad Pro. The chip is incredibly fast compared to the latter which is important due to the optimizations on the screen features. The A10X chip is a six-core CPU and also includes a 12 core GPU for performing powerful tasks. The six cores are paired into two whereby, 3 of them are larger, faster high-performance cores while the other 3 are smaller, slower low-power cores or (high efficiency cores). The high performance cores are used for the heavy tasks while the high efficiency cores are commonly used for power saving. From Geek-bench scores the chip of the new iPad pro 10.5 inch model is said to be clocked at around 2.38GHz.
4. Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil
With the smart keyboard of 2017 as compared to that of last year’s the keys seem to be more smaller hence there is enough spacing between the keys. However, the keyboard is not back-lit yet which becomes a bigger issue during the night.
The Apple Pencil’s latency is now down to 20 milliseconds, thanks to the new feature, ProMotion. Compared to the Microsoft surface pen, you might not note any difference as it has a 21ms latency. From most users it has been noted that the Apple pencil is more responsive and has a natural feel with handwriting.
5. The Battery life
Apple claims that the battery life is to last around 10 hours of normal usage. Literary that would be around 10% of juice per every hour is consumed. From the previous, 9.7-inch model it had a 27.5WHr battery while the the new model 10.5inch has a 30.1WHr battery. Doing the math that would come to a 10 percent increase which corresponds to the above consumption. In the box, Apple will ship the device together with a 12W charger that is, with USB A port and a cable.
